Info
The “Rocca Ventosa” B&B is located in a merry town just a few kilometers away from the sandy beaches of the Adriatic Sea and a short distance away from the Maiella. Tollo stands on a hill surrounded by typical “Pergola Abruzzese” vineyards and olive tree groves. The different crops, highly specialized, yield high-quality wine and oil. The presence of numerous wine cellars, both social and private such as the renowned Cantina Tollo, certify the town’s worldwide fame with regards to the excellent quality wines that are produced and which obtain important awards.
“Rocca Ventosa” was the name of the hill where the B&B is situated and is, furthermore, the most ancient part of Tollo: its roots go back to Medieval times when the settlements on the hills along the Adriatic were used during the Crusades as lookout points to protect the passage of crusader ships going to, or coming back from, war.
The building, completely renovated and secured after the terrible 2009 Aquila earthquake, was built by the public works office after the first world war, around the 1920s. It rose in the area of the ancient Castle of the Nolli barons and where, just a little time before the second world war, one of the first Foppapedretti plants was situated.
The structure is characterized by high barrel vaults and thick walls that give the feeling of an ancient village-type building, and is composed of four rooms, each one called with the name of a wind according to its location.
Positioned in a tranquil and quiet area, surrounded by the green communal garden and with a breathtaking view of the landscape adjacent the town, the B&B ensures relaxation from frenetic everyday life.
The bell tolls coming from the nearby church punctuate the hours during the day and announce joyful community moments with their festive ringing.
Guests are welcomed and embraced by the owners who do their utmost to meet needs and requests, in order to make the stay even more pleasant.
Breakfast is served in a common space adjacent the kitchen, where hot meals are prepared.
A small terrace covered by a pergola can be found in the back area of the house, overlooking the external spaces of the near EnoMuseo which hosts, especially during the summer, events and exhibitions. From here, the landscape becomes even more suggestive as it is possible to admire not only the surrounding hills, but also the Maiella mountain range, which extends right up to the foot of the Gran Sasso. According to the legend, it represents the body of the goddess Maja, eldest daughter of the Pleiades.
